Lisa Smith

Lisa Smith works as Marketing Manager for United Refrigeration Inc. She holds a B.S. in Education and Training from the University of Tennessee and a M.S. in Marketing from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA.

Lisa’s previous work experience includes Manager of Product Development and Strategic Marketing for Carrier Corp. where she worked for 19 years. During this time, Lisa was involved in the development of five joint-venture patents and in the launching of products in competitive markets.

Dedicated to community service, Lisa has devoted much of her spare time to volunteering. Lisa’s service includes program chair for the Middle Tennessee Parents of Multiples, an organization that serves parents of multiple births; coach for the American Youth Soccer Organization; team leader for the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk; and board member for Rainbow Kids Preschool and the First United Methodist Church Daycare Center.


Erin Cushing

Erin Cushing is a therapist at Clifford Beers Guidance Clinic in New Haven, CT, where she works with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds on such mental health issues as domestic violence, physical and sexual abuse, attachment issues, early onset psychosis, and school issues.  Erin, who received her B.S. in Psychology from Houghton College, Houghton, NY, and M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Connecticut, was hired as part of Clifford Beers Guidance Clinic's four-year trauma grant dedicated to finding more effective ways to serve clients struggling with trauma issues and to evaluate trauma-based therapy modalities.

Prior to Clifford Beers, Erin worked at the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut in New London, CT, in outpatient child mental health services where she focused on the impact of parental conflict on children. In addition, Erin has devoted herself to volunteer service. For several years, she has been involved in Royal Family Kids Camp in rural Allegany County, one of the most economically poor counties in New York State. The camp serves children (ages 6-12) who have been abused and neglected.

Erin loves to travel and has enjoyed cultural experiences in Russia, England, Germany, and Italy. She hopes to continue her travels in the future.


Teresa McDowell, Ed.D.

Dr. Teresa McDowell is an associate professor and coordinator of the marriage and family therapy (MFT) program at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.  Teresa has many years of experience as an educator, clinician, supervisor, and researcher. Much of her work has focused on issues of social/racial equity and cultural democracy relative to family therapy education and practice in the United States.  In the past several years, she has been expanding this critical multicultural agenda to be more inclusive and attentive to local, national, and international contexts.  She is currently working on educational initiatives and cross-national partnerships that will promote global citizenship and sustain collective efforts toward meeting locally defined goals for improving the lives of women, men, children and families.     

Ming Hua He

A native of Harbin, Manchuria, China, Ming is the founder and director of the Chinese Cultural Exchange, an organization based in West Hartford, CT, that works to promote Chinese-American relations through education and cultural events( Chinese Cultural Exchange).  Recently, Connecticut's governor recognized Ming for her efforts to foster international relations between the two countries.  

Ming holds two college degrees, one from Trinity College and one from a school in Manchuria, China; and is currently completing her masters in Business Administration.  Ming also works with Adoption Associates as a Chinese Adoption Coordinator.
